The M51 galaxy, also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy, is a famous spiral galaxy located approximately 27 million light-years from Earth, in the northern constellation Canes Venatici. It is one of the most famous and frequently photographed deep-sky objects in astronomy, thanks to its spectacular face-on structure and the evident gravitational interaction with a smaller companion.
