VdB 123 is a reflection nebula located in the constellation of Serpens. It is part of the catalog of reflection nebulae compiled by Sidney van den Bergh in 1966 and is embedded within the vast Serpens molecular cloud, a region rich in interstellar dust and star-forming activity. Its characteristic blue color is caused by the scattering of light from the star HD 170634 by the surrounding dust. The nebula is located approximately 800 light-years from Earth and is surrounded by extensive dark structures that absorb the light of background stars, creating a field particularly rich in detail.
