LDN 183 is a dark nebula situated approximately 325 light-years from Earth. It lies in the constellation Serpens and is one of the molecular clouds closest to our solar system. As a dense molecular cloud rich in cosmic dust and gas, it almost completely blocks the light from the stars behind it when observed in the visible spectrum and appears as a ‘blank patch’ or a shadow in the sky. Due to its extremely low brightness and low contrast, photographing the internal structure of this dark nebula presents a considerable challenge
