Sh2-129 & Barnard 150, Squid, flying bat, seahorse - HaOIIILRGB
Finally, the fifth project of our observatory in Texas is coming to fruition. The two subjects to be immortalised were conceived by Giuseppe Mauriello and myself (but ultimately it is the project of our Itex_observatory team). I have always wanted to photograph this Squid Nebula (a nebula that is very difficult to extrapolate as a signal), and how could I not take advantage of the magnificent Texan sky? Suffice it to say that the quality of the sky had already allowed us to glimpse the nebula in broadband RGB (photos that I will show you in this post).
Sh2-129, also known as the Flying Bat Nebula, is a vast emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus, about 1,300 light years from Earth. It is characterised by a shape reminiscent of a bat and a reddish emission of hydrogen. Within Sh2-129 lies the Squid Nebula, a weaker, bipolar region rich in ionised oxygen, discovered in 2011.
Barnard 150 or L1082 is a dark nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, 1,200 light years from Earth. It is also known as the Seahorse Nebula or Dark Seahorse Nebula because of its shape. It is a dark nebula located about 1,200 light years from Earth in the constellation Cepheus. Unlike emission or reflection nebulae, which emit or reflect light, dark nebulae are composed of dense, cold gas and dust that block the light from objects or stars behind them.
Here is the link to the high-resolution image with all the technical data. However, this photo took us over 70 hours of exposure.
