The Needle galaxy (catalog NGC 4565) can be identified and observed (with a good telescope) in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is about 50 million light years away from our solar system and looks perfectly cut to us, reminiscent of a needle with a bulge in the center.
The dimensions are very similar to those of our galaxy and some studies of the bulge would confirm the hypothesis that it is a barred spiral galaxy.
In the photograph you can also see other more distant galaxies, the most evident of which is NGC 4562 64 million light years away while among the most evanescent galaxies we can see the irregular galaxy IC 3571 (a small spot below the Needle) which is 60 million light years away. light years.
