NGC 2264 is a brilliant open cluster about 2500 light years away surrounded by a large system of diffuse nebula within the unicorn constellation.

At the southern tip of the cluster, if you look with a telescope with a filter, a nebula becomes apparent, with a dark cone topple on the edge with the tip pointing upwards (in this image we can look at it on the left). This structure famous the cloud as the cone nebula. In addition, there is a large, weaker nebula to the north-west of the cluster, which can be seen in the photographs on long exposure.
