The Helping Hand Nebula LDN 1355 - 1357
The framed portion of the sky, containing dust, reflection and dark nebulae, is located in the constellation Cassiopeia. The distance to our solar system varies between 200 and 1300 light years, depending on the area observed.
LDN 1355, together with the surrounding dark nebulae LDN 1357 and 1358, formed an interesting sight similar to an extended ‘friendly hand’.
Just below the ‘palm’ of the ‘friendly hand’ is a blue reflecting nebula VdB 9 illuminated by the star SU Cas.
Also visible in the field of view are the diffuse nebulae BSI 7 and 8.
